First, document it in a diary. When did it start? What kind of pain is it and where exactly are you feeling it? Talk to your doctor to know what exercises you need to start or what you should stop doing. Dont try painkillers, unless recommended by your doctor.

Exercises That Can Help Relieve Hip Pain During Pregnancy

1. Fire log pose. Sit comfortably on the edge of a folded blanket and cross one ankle over the opposite knee. If you can stack the other ankle and knee too, do so or otherwise just relax the bottom leg out. From here, just sit or carefully and lean forward. You should feel a stretch in the outer hip right away.

2. Standing sideways stretch. Stand next to a doorway and align your shoulder with it. Then cross your inner leg over the outer leg and lean towards the door frame, holding onto it with both hands. If that is not enough of a stretch, then try and push into the hand which is on top.

3. Standing ankle to knee. If you have good balance, this pose is excellent to open the hips and create strength in the standing leg. Find a ledge at about hip height or higher and stand in front of it. Then place your ankle on the opposite knee and fold forward. Keep your standing leg bent softly — the more you lean forward the more intense the stretch will be.

4. Lie on your side with a pillow between your knees. This is not technically an exercise, but it should relieve pain, particularly if it is associated with sciatic pain. Lie down on your side and stack your hips, knees and ankles in two 90 degree angles. Pull your knees up in front of you and keep space in the knee. Then place a pillow along your lower leg and relax. Lying like this for at least 15 minutes can do wonders for the spine.

How Is Pelvic Pain Diagnosed In Pregnancy

If you’re experiencing pain anywhere during pregnancy, it’s important to tell your doctor or midwife. She’ll want to make sure your pain isn’t due to any other health problems, and she’ll offer options for relief.

Your healthcare provider will examine you and may have you do certain movement tests to help pinpoint where the pain is coming from. In some cases, you may need to have an ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging , which provides pictures of the soft tissue and bones.

Focus On Your Posture

As changes in posture can contribute to hip pain, there are things you can try to correct this, such as:

  • putting a pillow between your knees while you sleep
  • keeping your legs together when getting out of bed or a car
  • using a chair that supports your lower back
  • keeping your back straight and not crossing your legs while sitting
  • not sitting for too long — try to move around every 30 minutes
  • sitting upright in a chair and at a desk while using a computer — face the screen, and dont twist your back to 1 side
  • standing with your weight evenly distributed over both your hips — dont shift your weight onto 1 leg as this can place more pressure on that hip

  • Abdominal cramping and discomfort, particularly in the lower abdomen
  • Lower backache that extends to the front and sides of your body, without relief, when you change positions

How to sleep with hip pain? Place a cushion next to your baby bump to avoid toppling over your bump and lift your hips. Sharp pain in the hip can be cured by placing a wheat bag near it. The pillows and cushions you use counter the pelvic pressure during pregnancy.

Many women find that simple changes and considerations can help their PGP symptoms:Good posture:

  • Sit on a firm chair with a rolled towel or cushion to support the lower back
  • Do not cross your legs when sitting
  • Directly face your computer screen
  • Place a pillow between your knees and ankles when lying on your side at night
  • Roll onto your side before getting out of bed, keeping your legs together
  • Keep your legs together when turning over in bed and when getting in/out of the car
  • Keep your back straight when moving from sitting to standing and use your arms to push up.

Daily activities:

  • Sit down to get dressed/undressed
  • Climb the stairs one step at a time
  • Sit down to prepare food or to do the ironing
  • Walk more slowly and with shorter strides
  • Wear comfortable supportive shoes with a good sole
  • Avoid prolonged sitting or standing avoid sitting on the floor.

Toddlers :

  • Try to avoid lifting your toddler too often and avoid carrying the child on one hip
  • If they want a cuddle, sit down and ask the child to sit beside you or on your lap
  • Remember to let the cot side down when lifting the child in/out
  • Kneel to bath your child or preferably ask a partner/relative to help
  • Keep your child close to you when lifting him/her into a car seat .

Try to have a rest for at least half an hour each day, preferably lying down on your side with a pillow between your knees and ankles. Pacing Try to plan your daily activities so that you keep active but do not overdo things.

Lower Back Pain In Pregnancy
