A great spot to check out is Le Pain Quotidien New York. It is a Belgian cafe/restaurant chain which serves delicious homemade bread and much more. We at Loving New York were here recently to share our experience with you.

The Best Locations: Le Pain Quotidien

No matter where you are in New York, you will have a Le Pain Quotidien in the vicinity. Especially near all the top sightseeing attractions in New York , you are guaranteed to find one of the restaurants. We tried out a Le Pain Quotidien in Bryant Park and loved it there. Our other favorite locations for us are the located near Sheep Meadow in Central Park. There are also very cool Le Pain Quotidien spots at Battery Park City, TriBeCa and SoHo . In the hustle and bustle of the city, Le Pain Quotidien invites you to escape to a place where tradition and simplicity are valued. The bakers mix organic stone meal, sea salt and water with a special yeast to create the base of the bread. The dough is then patiently kneaded by hand and baked in stone-lined ovens. However, Le Pain Quotidien doesnt just offer bread. If you really want to eat breakfast like youre in the heart of Europe, heres what the establishment has to offer. Theres frothy lattes, full baskets of rustic European bread, croissants and brioche, lots of different egg dishes, cereal yogurt parfaits and so on. At noon there is a huge list of soups, salads, sandwiches and so on.

Le Pain Quotidien Poised For Relaunch

When all 98 U.S. locations of restaurant/café Le Pain Quotidien closed and filed for Chapter 11 during the pandemic, many amongst its loyal following were left with a sour taste, but it allowed new owner, Aurify Brands to scoop out 52 locations for about $5 million. To its shopping cart in bankruptcy court, and for another $3 million, Aurify added 11 U.S. outposts of Maison Kayser, the French Bakery chain named for Parisian baker Eric Kayser, as well as its commissary kitchen.

Both brands emerged from visionaries who placed bread at the core of their enterprise. Eric Kaysers recipe for crusty baguette won him accolades around the world, while Belgian Le Pain Quotidiens founder, Alain Coumont experienced a true epiphany when he tasted Poilânes famous sourdough, the best bread hed ever tried. His own version would ignite a business empire. While hes no longer associated with the U.S. company, he remains the inspiration behind the brand.

Mr. Coumont is not directly involved, said CEO Becky Mulligan, who also oversees Little Beet and Table by Little Beet, But we are in touch! Hes a forward-thinker and cares very much about the future of the brand.

Stopped by the 7th Avenue location for breakfast this morning between the hotel and Penn Station. I dont think that I ever had a perfect baguette until this morning. The crust was crispy and the interior was so soft and delicious. The ham and cheese…omelet was perfectly made and the sunny side breakfast bowl with it sunny side egg was as filling as it was healthy. Our server, Andy, was friendly and attentive. When we chatted about the restaurant and the food he was as knowledgeable about the ingredients of the bread as he was about the philosophy of the restaurant concept and its founder. It was a refreshing experience!More

I bought food here, they gave me call to cancel my order last minute, as a customer of course you will be “hangry” waiting for your food only to find out it was cancelled. The person did not empathize at all and din’t even issue…my refund. I had to do it all myself through grubhub. If you’re a restaurant owner or if you care about the restaurant and it’s customers you will look through the whole experience of the customer even if it was ordering through a third party provider. I understand they have no control but the way the person in the call handled it was just annoying.More

Le Pain Quotidien New York With Roots From Belgium

In 1990, the young Belgian Alain Coumont opened his first bakery with the aim of creating a place to feel at home. His desire was to bake bread that tastes like that of childhood memories. Since he could not find that anywhere in Belgium, Coumont decided to do it himself. In just a few months he opened 10 more bakeries in Belgium. Seven years later, Le Pain Quotidiens New York flagship store opened on Madison Avenue. Today, Le Pain Quotidien New York has about 40 stores throughout the city.

Inside Le Pain Quotidien 30 years later

Le Pain Quotidien, French for the daily bread, started as a bakery in Brussels, Belgium, when then chef/restaurateur Alain Coumont realized it wasnt cost-efficient to purchase Pain Poilâne in Paris and have it driven to his Brussels restaurant every day. Instead, he bought a massive second-hand bread oven that yielded 48 breads per load. Bread-making started as a hobby then grew into his passion.

Mr. Coumonts signature organic bread is made simply with a sourdough starter, flour, salt and water, said Ms. Mulligan, and remains a key component.

Wanting to foster an atmosphere of conviviality, Mr. Coumont had found a large reclaimed wood table at a flea market in Brussels. Today, communal oval tables still allow guests to break bread together, and the open-faced tartines, the Belgian versions of sandwiches, remain a staple on the menu. Bowls, rather than mugs or cups are linked to the founders childhood memories.

Aurify is determined to modernize the concept. Le Pain Quotidien app was launched earlier this year, Maison Kaysers outposts have reopened as Pain Quotidien locations, and new openings are planned around the country. Viennoiseries are now baked on premises and the menu is being expanded, including a new olive bread, a sesame baguette, salade niçoise, and new pastries. While not every ingredient is organic, Le Pain Quotidien uses no corn syrup, no protein with antibiotics and only organic dairy.
