Foot Pain An Issue That Crops Up

KT Tape: Top of Foot

At some point in most peoples lives, Foot pain will be an issue that crops up. Sometimes we can pinpoint exactly what caused it, but other times it seems to just appear out of nowhere. There are as many treatments for pain in the bottom of the foot as there are causes, and getting an assessment to help figure out which steps you need to take is definitely worthwhile .

Proper Use Of Kinesiology Tape

Before putting on kinesiology tape on your foot, ensure that your skin is clean and free from any dirt. Dont stretch the tape excessively. Once youre ready, put it near the heel.

The tape should not stay on for more than 24 hours since it loses some of its elasticity after this time. To provide maximum skin stimulation, you need to replace and apply new tape every day. Some individuals report mild skin problems after wearing tape for more than the recommended period.

If you have sensitive skin, your doctor may recommend hypoallergenic undertape. You can apply this before the kinesiology tape for an additional layer of protection.

Bottom Of The Foot Taping

This method is similar to the other taping technique we described above. However, this technique does not cover the ankle. Start off with one piece of 2 inch wide tape. Place one end on the ball of your foot and extend it to one inch before the heel with no stretch. Take a second piece of one inch wide tape and apply it to the ball of the foot with some stretch and press down the edges to the top of the foot. Rub the tape with your hands to activate the adhesive.

Tape Vs Inserts Or Padding

Metatarsal pads are an effective treatment for metatarsalgia pain. These support pads shift weight away from the metatarsal heads. Metatarsal support pads work differently than kinesio taping and maybe a better fit for people during the acute phase of the condition. Toe separators will help to realign the bones but unlike kinesiology tape, these are bulky and might be uncomfortable while wearing shoes.

There is no one right answer for everyone. Metatarsalgia treatment begins by removing irritants like high heels and weight-bearing exercises that cause foot problems. Then introduce simple treatments, orthotics, kinesiology taping. These together will provide pain relief from ball of foot pain.

    Video tutorial:

Hi, my name is Michael Garcia. I’m a massage therapist and athletic therapist at form optimal athletic therapy. I am working with Mobility Tape to demonstrate how to apply tape for top of the foot pain. First thing you want to do is cut out three strips, two short and one long. I’m going to hand these over to Eric so that he can do the self-application.

With a short piece, you’re going to tear the backing in the middle expose the middle portion of the tape, apply 50% stretch and place it down on the top of the foot, coming down the sides. Remember the anchors on either end should have no stretch. Repeat this same application with the other short piece slightly further up the foot.

This long piece goes to the anterior part of the foot, the first anchor should be placed just after the short pieces with the rest of the tape pointing up toward the shin. You’re going to apply the stretch which is about 50 to 75% and lay the tape down running up the top of your foot all the way to your lower shin. Lay down the top anchor that has no stretch and then rubbing it down to help the adhesive and to help activate the heating agent. As always, with any persistent pain or dysfunction, please seek medical professional attention

Aml Tries Kinesiology Tape For Extensor Tendonitis

I havent updated you on my foot for a while. The good news: no fracture!

    The bad news: extensor tendonitis!

Extensor tendonitis is basically inflammation of the tendons that run along the top of the foot.

Rest, better shoes, gap lacing, insoles, icing, iburofen and stretching are considered the basic treatment for the inflammation of the tendons, but Id been seeing this kinesiology tape stuff in various sporting goods stores and Id had it recommended to me. So I figured why not?

    From the Physio Works website:

Sounds good, right? I purchased Performtex brand, because it was $12.99 a roll at Dicks Sporting goods while all other brands were $19.99. Well see if that makes a difference or not!

I Googled how to apply the tape for extensor tendonitis, and came up with this video:

Hmm, could this actually be EASY?

The application wasnt as easy as they make it look in the video. Getting the paper off the back was a bit of a pain, as it shredded in some parts, but all in all it wasnt difficult at all. Im going to wear it for a few days, and hopefully get a short run in before I come back to report on the results!

PS Septembers Adventure Run is tomorrow, yay!

    S For Removing Kinesio Tape

Kinesio tape is intended to stay on for several days therefore, it takes some extra effort to remove sometimes. Steps include the following:

  • Apply an oil-based product, such as baby oil or cooking oil, to the tape.
  • Allow this to sit for several minutes.
  • Gently roll the edge of the tape downward, pulling the tape away in the direction of the hair growth.
  • If you have residual glue from the tape after removal, you can apply the oil to further dissolve it.
  • Kinesio Taping Is Not Just For Olympic Athletes

Pain on the top of the foot taping kinesiology taping KT Tape Rocktape

In a climate where athletes compete and win or lose within a fraction of a second, it was once believed to be a disadvantage if someone thought that you had an injury. Taping yourself up wasnt something you wanted anyone to see. It was like telling your competitors that you had physical limitations. Today, all of that has changed.

If youve watched the Olympics youve likely seen plenty of brightly colored tape on the arms and legs of many top athletes. It is called Kinesio Tape, and it was invented by a Japanese chiropractor named Kenzo Kase in the 1970s. One example of a good brand of kinesio tape is Rocktape. While its main purpose is to decrease discomfort from injuries, Kinesio taping is a workhorse and doesnt stop there. Kinesio tape supports muscles and joints and stabilizes them without restricting motion. It also decreases inflammation by microscopically lifting the skin, which helps to increase circulation and movement of lymphatic fluid, accelerating healing.

Today, upwards of 85 percent of Kinesio taping applications are used with the general patient population for rehabilitative purposes. Practitioners who routinely use it believe that it helps facilitate the bodys natural healing process. It does this by allowing free movement of lymphatic fluid and reducing friction between the tissues in the skin. Its benefits offer a patient support during an injury and better outcomes for rehabilitation.

Kinesiology Taping Application That Can Help With Foot Pain

I want to share a quick and easy RockTape application that can be done at home to help reduce some symptoms. This application is great for those times when you need some immediate TLC but works best when used along with exercise and other treatment to help speed up the return to function.

To apply the tape, sit with your ankle crossed over your knee, and the bottom of your foot comfortably stretched. Apply a piece of tape with little to no tension from the ball of your foot to your heel. You can continue around the heel and go up the back of your Achilles tendon if desired. At this point, you can stop, or you can add a second piece of tape across the arch of your foot, forming an X pattern. Again, use little to no tension when applying the second piece of tape. For extra pain mitigation, you can apply RockSauce Fire on top of the tape. Pain in the feet can be a real issue, and hopefully, this will help you on your way to moving and feeling better.

    Tips For Applying Kinesio Tape

To get the most use out of your sports tape, make sure that your skin is clean and dry. Immediately after you shower and dry off is a great time to apply it, or you can swab the area clean with rubbing alcohol.

When you wrap your feet for plantar fasciitis or heel spurs, wearing socks at night will help preserve the tape and keep the edges from rolling. Taping your feet can usually be done alone, but if you are taping other areas of the body such as your shoulders, it may be easier to have someone else apply the kinesio tape.

    Kt Tape: Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia, or arch tendon, is a thick band of connective tissue that runs from the heel to the front of the foot. It is made of three distinct parts: medial, central, and lateral bands. The central band is the thickest and strongest and is the portion most likely involved in plantar fasciitis pain.

FOOT PAIN DUE TO PLANTAR FASCIITIS

In normal function the plantar fascia acts as a shock absorber and support mechanism for the arch of the foot. During gait, or movement, the plantar fascia acts like a spring to conserve energy and provide propulsion. Tension increases while the foot is on the ground to store the energy and is then released during toe-off to help with acceleration.

Plantar Fasciitis literally means inflammation of the plantar fascia, but most cases are more degenerative changes rather than inflammatory ones. A new term being used to accurately describe the condition is plantar fasciosis. The condition accounts for about 10% of runner related injuries and is twice as predominant in women than in men. Because of this high incidence in runners, microtrauma from repeated stress is believed to be the primary base cause.

    CAUSES OF PLANTAR FASCIITIS PAIN

Tightness in the calf muscles or the Achilles tendon can greatly exacerbate or promote plantar fasciitis. Loss of movement in the ankle, weak or imbalanced leg and foot muscles, as well as the aging process can all be additional factors.
